Following our 2011 research, we have launched the Delivering Skills for Future Growth project to take forward the employer needs that were identified, such as the skills gap and negative career perceptions of the industry. Working with employees, employers and training providers, we aim to identify current and future training needs, and ensure courses are developed which will help businesses and the Welsh food and drink industry to become as efficient and effective as possible. This will involve:
- Accrediting bite-sized chunks of learning and creating tailored in-house training provision giving recognition to learners and employers to develop learning solutions for their workforce. It will raise awareness of the direct benefits of how increasing knowledge, undertaking training and developing skills will assist and support career progression in the FDSC workforce. We aim to target 500 individuals, through the 35 learning programmes that will be accredited during the project lifetime.
- Maintaining a Knowledge Hub around Labour Market Intelligence within the FDSC, which will focus on understanding how this important sector can offer sustainable employment opportunities across Wales.
